This is the official definition for Affiliate marketing, in simple terms you promote a websites products and each sale they get through you, they will then give you a percentage of the sale value. 

This percentage is usually a small percentage on a high value item or a large percentage on a lower value items. 

There are many affiliate websites such as Clickbank which connect a range of different sellers to affiliates you can sign up to this website and promote many different products from different people. However if you like certain brands such as Apple you can become an affiliate promoting their products. You could even sign up with a mixture of affiliate sites to see which ones you prefer.
